Publicity Photo

Fashion-conscious women around the world used to wonder, "What are they wearing at Disneyland this year?". Especially if they planned on standing on the deck of a nuclear submarine. Thanks to this publicity photo, we know that they should wear a bathing suit designed by Patty Woodard, with spaceage fabrics courtesy of Monsanto. I wonder if "Joan" was one of the mermaids that used to grace the lagoon? The photo is undated, but I would guess that it is from the late 60's.

Major: The first Cinderella Festival was held March 3-5, 1971. The second was held March 3-4, 1972. This must have been publicity for the second. It was an event presumably aimed at women, with a number of fashion shows throughout the Park. In the first year, one woman Guest would be crowned Cinderella and receive a selection of five garments from the fashion shows. Each Guest also got a free Disneyland recipe book, featuring those most requested such as New Orleans Square Clam Chowder, Monte Cristo Sandwich, and Fantasia Cheese Cake. (Anyone have a copy of this?) Additionally, at least in that first year, there were guided tours of Disneyland's garden areas. And here you thought it was a frivolous promotional photo. ;)

Wow, Progressland, thanks for all of the information! It definitely made this mildly interesting publicity photo a lot more cool!
