Frontierland, 1962

Today I've got a two fun photos (plus a closeup) from Frontierland, 1962! First up is this classic view of the Mine Train as it returns to Rainbow Ridge. No mountain lions are sitting in the seats (if you recall the spiel....)! I like the mixture of wooden, false-front buildings to our left, and the more Spanish, adobe style straight ahead (complete with piƱon ladders like you might find at an Indian pueblo). I never knew that the dentist was named "Dr. Holliday", perhaps a nod to C.K Holliday?

Next is this nice shot of a raft making the return trip from Tom Sawyer Island. The fun part, in this case, is the people...

... like the kids up front. There's our girl waving at us with her friend. Behind her are two sinister boys in identical, candy-striped shirts. Oh wait, one has a green collar, one has a red collar. My apologies, boys! The little kid in between them looks a bit worried! The cast member looks like an FBI agent in frontier garb. Don't mess with him! Notice the blue patch above his gleaming metal cast member badge (which I covet), that's where he actually wore a hole through the cloth scratchin' at chiggers and bedbugs and the like. He sleeps in a long bed with his 13 brothers and sisters, and sells moonshine on the side (for medicinal purposes only).

See, that third photo is what always gave me nightmares as a kid when I'd go into Injun Joe's Cave.

Not the darkness. Not the creepy sounds. Not the bottomless pit.

The mindless terror of meeting kids like those two guys in the striped shirts.

Could be a nod to Doc Holiday...

Oh yes, and the smells that would be in those caves.....those two kids probably contributed to that problem!

Is that little girl behind the cast member wearing her pajamas???

Those kids look like they escaped from a pajama party! Those boys look like they would have stole my lunch money, in fact, a couple of the girls look like they would steal my lunch money. What an odd bunch of people on that raft...

Yep, before he was a gunslinger, "Doc" Holiday was a dentist. You'd know that if you watched more Star Trek (TOS, please).

The boys in the candy-strip shirts and the glum looking little girl are obviously siblings and afflicted with an Eisenhower-era mother - A mother with too much love in her heart and too much time on her hands.

Not only did she make all the cloths the children are wearing, she alternated the colors on the boys' shirts. Not just the collars mind you (red for one, green for the other) any amateur mother could do that... she actually went so far as to alternate the stripes on the shirt sleeves (one cuff starts with red, the other green, arranged contrapuntally with the collars.)

In my neck of the woods, kids got beaten up for wearing Lord Fauntleroy threads like that.

ONE of the boys grew up to be Waldo. I don't know which.

Wow, is this a tough room. Speaking of tough, how 'bout that poor little twerp trapped 'twixt the twin Fauntleroys? The misery on his face is to die for! And who knows if, deep in the darkness of Injun Joe's Cave, he didn't?

I mean hey, the Butch Wax on the twins' hair would grease the Merry-Go-Round rock for a month!

Okay, major, I think you've hit on a hot new feature for Gorillas Don't Blog... "Trash the Guests." Once a week (depending on your supply of dorks) you post a photo like this, and we a) have a blast ripping the people in the photo, and b) thank our lucky stars we're not them.

:D

LOL tough room is right!

Some of those kids look an awful lot like they're from Babes In Toyland, a recent Disney film to these pics? No idea the connection but I'm sure reminded of it!
